Message from the County Chair:

There are so many things we are doing and that we will be doing between now and the Nov. election, and we won’t stop there!  We are all going to pull together to re-elect President Obama!

We may not have any elected Democratic officials in Johnson County as of now, but, with everyone’s help, we have the opportunity to get Johnson County Democrats Angela Ecord and John Greene elected.  I personally don’t look to the past but to the future.
I am a Yellow Dawg Democrat … I will forever vote  staight ticket Democrat in every general election, as I have since 1978.  In a district that is overwhelmingly Republican, we have an uphill battle! So, all of you, keep your chins up, and go out to your precincts and knock on doors, call your friends, and GOTV in November!
And, if you have the time, come to the HQ and volunteer for a few hours each week!  Each of you can do your part by volunteering 2-4 hours of your time each week at the HQ.
We are not doing the same old thing and getting the same results….we are doing new things and trying out new ideas.
What has the JCDP done over the past several months?
  • We have recruited someone with the courage to run for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 4 … Angela Ecord.
  • We have another new face in John Greene (and his family) who are all running to represent Johnson and Bosque Counties as our State Representative.
  • We had a rousing good time at the Johnson County Pioneers and Old Settlers’ Reunion, with Democratic Party  candidates Bill White, Jeff Weems, John Greene and Angela Ecord participating in the parade. Our float, with the great Texas Dixieland Band won a best-of prize and our Democratic picnic in the park attracted dozens of new faces.
  • For the first time in as long as I can remember, we participated in the Burleson 4th of July parade.
  • For the first time in recent history, we appeared in the Keene 4th of July Parade.
  • Our pot lucks has become a speaker’s forum.  In July, we had Jeff Weems, Dem. candidate for the Texas RR Commission, who gave a rousing speech, as well as demonstrating his initmate knowledge of what the misnomered RRC actually does; John Cullar is coming soon!
  • We restored our presence at the annual Cleburne Juneteenth event.
  • Our Executive Committee is now meeting on Saturdays every 2-3 months at the JCDP HQ located at 207 South Mill St. in Cleburne.
  • At our EC meetings, we actually discuss and plan events … at our next EC meeting, we will be discussing plans for the Nov. election, VAN lists, electing new precinct chairs for vacant precincts, and disussing plans for a fundraiser to be headed by Jim Garvin and his BBQ brisket and will include a dinner and theater event to raise the money we need to keep the office up and running.
  • We have some excellent volunteers who have helped man the HQ for the past several months … Randy Hanna, Luanne Leonard, Sonya Woodall, and Gary Yawn just to name a few (and there are several others).
  • We participated in the Cinco de Mayo event at Hulen Park in Cleburne.
  • We have created County Commissioner Precinct Executive Committees in the four County Commissioner Prcts. so that Precinct Chairs in those precincts can help the county party decide what their constituents want to happen in their areas of the Johnson County (this statutorily authorized break down has rarely-if ever-been used to organize a county party)…This is not the Cleburne Democratic Party…it is the Johnson County Democratic Party!
  • We have some excellent newcomers (and some old-timers) involved in the JCDP who have generated great energy and new ideas…Jim, Sonya, Angela, John, Luanne, Randy, Gary, Carl, Paxton, and the list goes on and on (if I did not mention you, it is because of time, and not lack of talent or effort!)
  • Our JCDP Secretary, Pam Humphrey, is totally inovlved in updating our website (www.jcdemocrats.com ), and publishes a regular newsletter via email.

DO YOU WANT TO BE PART OF THE SOLUTION?  IF SO, COME ON DOWN AND JOIN US! — Bill Conover

Ten things you can do to help Democrats win in November

1. Vote a straight Democratic ticket and make sure your friends and family do, too.

2. Throw a house party to introduce your neighbors and friends to Democratic candidates.

3. Send money. Money is the lifeblood of politics and our candidates need all they can get to counter their well-funded Republican opponents.

4. Talk. Tell your neighbors, friends and family about the candidates you support and why.

5. Call. Several candidates are planning phone banks in the area. Sign up to work one. It’s fun.

6. Volunteer. All of our candidates need your help. Contact them to learn what else you can do to make a difference.

7. Become a Precinct Chair. If your precinct doesn’t have a chair, apply. If it does, call them to find out how you can help.

8. Put out yard signs. Even the reddest streets have Democrats and independents. Let them know whom you support.

9. Take off on Election Day or one of the days of early voting so you can help Get Out The Vote!

10. Become a Johnson County Democratic Party Sustaining Member (forms are available on this web site). Your contribution will go to help us keep our headquarters open and our volunteers active. Members are the foundation of the Party!
