We are gaining ground in Texas, TDP Chair Boyd Richie tells Dems

Four years ago, 61% of Texans voted against Rick Perry.  On March 2, 65% voted for another candidate. Clearly, a majority of Texans are ready for a Governor who is better known for the brains inside his head than the hair on top of it.

That new Governor is Bill White. When White ran for Mayor, he didn’t make a lot of promises. He didn’t say he’d cut taxes. But when he took office, he scrubbed the city budget, cut the tax rate five times, and improved city services by getting the most out of every tax dollar.

Democrats are excited to have Bill White at the top of a ticket of qualified statewide and legislative candidates who will offer Texans an opportunity to restore responsible leadership in Austin:

* Linda Chavez-Thompson will give voice to millions of Texans who have not been heard inside the Capitol – and certainly not by millionaire Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst.

* Barbara Ann Radnofsky is an extraordinarily qualified lawyer that highly partisan Greg Abbot only wishes he could be.

* Hank Gilbert has the first-hand experience to promote Texas agriculture and expand markets to foster economic development.

* Hector Uribe understands the unique value of state-owned land in terms of recreation and the value those lands provide our public schools.

* Jeff Weems understands the Railroad Commission is too cozy with those it is supposed to regulate and will ensure it improves its standing with landowners.

* Our judicial candidates will restore fair and balanced justice to courts that have consistently sided with the wealthiest and most politically-connected special interests.

Texas Democrats are proud of our great state. And our proudest days are yet to come, starting the evening of November 2nd. We’ve seen things change in Dallas County, Harris County and in our suburban legislative districts. In 2010, Texans will restore the kind of responsible leadership and bipartisan balance that made Texas great in the first place.
